The text throughout the painting indicates the tribute obligations the Indigenous community of Tepeojuma had towards Don Diego de Ordaz, who is possibly represented by the figure with a hat at the bottom-left corner. The tribute included flowers, turkeys, and firewood that needed to be delivered every Sunday. Don Ordaz's lands are also depicted towards the bottom of the composition.
