American backed newspaper published weekly in Granada, Nicaragua during a period of increased American interests in Nicaragua and the beginnings of the Filibuster War of 1855-1860. It is published in both English and Spanish. This particular issue contains an update on the war between Costa Rica and the filibusters, news of visitors to Nicaragua, events in Europe, potential of emigration from the United States to Nicaragua, promotions in the William Walker-led Army, a piece on the upcoming United States presidential election of 1856, and the latest troop movements of both groups. Also included is an article detailing the military strategy of General William Walker, a historical piece on Guatemala, a recap of a lecture about Nicaragua given by Miss Sarah Pellet in New Orleans, and an update on American tobacco in Europe. The Spanish language portion of the issue contains reprints of decrees and legislation written by Nicaraguan President Patricio Rivas, recap of the Walker-led victory at the Battle of Sarapiqui, update on the Battle of Rivas, and an editorial addressed to all of the governments in Central America. | Vol. 1, No. 25
