American backed newspaper published weekly in Granada, Nicaragua during a period of increased American interests in Nicaragua and the beginnings of the Filibuster War of 1855-1860. It is published in both English and Spanish. This particular issue contains published letters from the two sides of the ongoing Filibuster War: President Juan Mora of Costa Rica and that of the filibustering multinational group led by General William Walker. Included are accounts of battles and warnings to both sides, lists of wounded and fallen soldiers and a recounting of events at Virgin Bay, which includes witness testimony of the details and a letter written by John Hill Wheeler, U.S. Minister to Nicaragua. Issue also features lists of promotions within the Army, a report from the Battle of Rivas, and a call for immigrants. The Spanish language portion of the issue contains the same letter by Wheeler, a report on the second Battle of Rivas, and an article highlighting the importance of liberty, equality, and fraternity. | Vol. 1, No. 24
