Description:
Detailed chronology and short biographies of the Viceroys of New Spain that held power from the years 1521-1821. Starting with Fernando (Hernán) Cortés in 1521 and ending with Juan Ruiz de Apodaca in 1821. Each Viceroy is listed with their years of service followed by biographies detailing critical moments during their appointments. The index at the back of this 1851 copy notes that Diego García Panes authored the original work compiling the entries for Viceroys from the years 1521-1787. The remaining years 1788-1821 were completed by an anonymous second author. A detailed history of the creation and authors of the original work can be found in the introduction written by Joaquín García Icazbalceta.
