Seventeenth-century copy of the royal decree that reserves the right to grant ecclesiastical privilege to the king. It lists 22 rules the royal and ecclesiastical officials in the Americas should abide. These include: the appointment of priests; the establishment of shrines and canonries; clerical salaries; the number of beneficed priests in a cathedral; the preferred educational background for clerical candidates; the relationship between friars and secular priests; the assignment of priests to Indigenous communities; the travel of religious order officials to the Americas; the process elected authorities in religious orders should follow to gain royal recognition; reporting requirements for religious order and ecclesiastical authorities; and miscellaneous prohibitions.
