Description:
Description of Hueytlalpa as well as full descriptions of the surrounding towns located in the Diocese of Tlaxcala. Surrounding towns include Zacatlan, Xuxupango, Matlatlan y Chila, Papantla, Tecolutla, and Tenanpulco y Matlactonatico. Census was signed by Juan de Carrión. Document lists Mexicana and Totonaco as the languages spoken, fauna, etymology of place names, and topographic features of the land such as rivers and roads. Descriptions place these communities in a historical, geographical, and cultural context within the larger province of Zacatlan and provides details on native population, and systems of governance. Also included are multiple visual representations of the landscape, known as pinturas or maps. This is one of a series of responses to a political and cultural survey circulated by King Philip II of Spain titled relaciones geográficas, which were gathered between the years 1579-1585.
