Title:
Single story stone house with roof in disrepair, two people standing in foreground
Description:
Unknown house, Castroville, exterior | Single story house of plaster-coated stone with a shingle roof in disrepair, a wooden fence in the background, and wood pile on the left. Two people stand in the foreground on either side of the frame smiling at the camera, one leaning on a pole-shaped implement. A large tree stands in the right foreground with a piece of sculptural concrete or cast stone furniture leaning against it and a large washtub sitting next to it. A smaller washtub is sitting on a sculptural stool a few feet away. There is a long branch or cord reaching from the building to behind the person on the right. Another building is visible behind the fence. | From a series of unique photographic images, which Williams took on his travels through central Texas in the 1920s, showing examples of vernacular architecture. Williams donated the negatives to the UT's School of Architecture in 1961 and they were subsequently transferred to the Alexander Architectural Archives.
