General Note:
The Travel at the Turn of the 20th Century Project endeavors to provide a sample of works published between 1875-1908. The collection of texts are comprised of popular travel, guidebooks, late Victorian travel narratives, school geographies and surveys of countries and regions addressing destinations both domestic and foreign, familiar and exotic. All texts included in the project were selected from the collection of the University of Texas Libraries of the University of Texas at Austin and are intended to be useful in the Texas K-12 public education curriculum. Users should be aware that some of the writing in books from this period involves opinions, judgements, and stereotypes held in those days that are not justifiable and are no longer accepted.
